Current and Future Use of Robotic Devices to Perform Percutaneous Coronary Interventions: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
R obots are electromechanical machines that can be used to perform repetitive or dangerous tasks in place of humans. Although robots are now widely used in industrial mass production, it was not until the mid-1990s that robots were first introduced to clinical medicine. Medical robots are gaining widespread use in surgery because of advantages such as high precision and speed, reproducibility, greater access to areas under operation, and machine endurance. In cardiovascular medicine, medical robots are routinely used for minimally invasive cardiac surgery, with the da Vinci system (Intuitive Surgical) for mitral valve repair and for coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. Robots are also being evaluated for clinical use in endovascular surgery, electrophysiology, and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Despite accumulating evidence that supports the feasibility and safety of robotassisted PCI, robot-assisted coronary interventions are now performed only in a limited number of centers worldwide. Although the interventional cardiology community is more aware today of the many potential hazards of working in the catheterization laboratory, interventional cardiologists have been slow to accept robotic technology, given concerns about learning curves and costs. For the purpose of this narrative review, a literature search was performed using available search engines including Medline (Ovid), Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), PubMed, and Google Scholar. The search was last updated in January 2017.

Vascular closure devices in percutaneous coronary and peripheral interventions: rationale and results
Vascular access site management is crucial to safe, efficient and comfortable diagnostic or interventional percutaneous coronary or peripheral interventions. In recent years, vascular closure devices have gained popularity and are being used for rapid hemostasis and early ambulation as an alternative to manual compression. However, controversy still exists over their superiority over manual com...
متن کاملCoronary Artery Bifurcation Lesions; A Review and a Guide for Specific Interventional Techniques
Percutaneous coronary intervention in the setting of coronary bifurcation lesions is associated with increased risk for complications. The goal of this manuscript is to review the currently available classifications for coronary artery bifurcation lesions with a guide to the use of specific coronary bifurcation techniques based on lesion characteristics
متن کاملRobotic-Assisted Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
We read with interest the paper in the April issue of JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions by Granada et al. (1). The authors describe a novel system using robotic assistance in a small cohort of patients. The authors explain the occupational hazards of the interventionalist appropriately and provide the benefits of such a technique. If this system makes it to the mass market, the advantages are ...
متن کاملEvaluating the use of robotically assisted percutaneous coronary intervention: a matter of being precise
Since the advent of catheter-based coronary intervention three decades ago, steady technological progress has led to the development and refinement of intracoronary devices [1]. Despite technological advances, the fundamental workflow of coronary procedures remains unchanged. Interventionalists still wear heavy protective lead aprons, stand at the bedside for long hours and manually manipulate ...

Background: This review study aims to shade light on the effects of carrying out interventions and policies in order to reduce the incidence and prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their behavioral risk factors (i.e., unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity and smoking) and strategies and approaches to reduce their attributed burden. Method: In this research, the documen...
